DONATIONS
The St. Joseph's Community Food Bank in Pembroke is a registered charity opened in 1986. We are a non-denominational, non-profit, non-political charity. We do not receive government funding. All food and monies are donated by local individuals, businesses and organizations.
The Food Bank relies on fundraising events, donations of money, food and gifts-in-kind from our generous community members and organizations. We are extremely grateful for your generosity. For information on how to donate, please go to our Donations page.
A total of 76,480 meals were provided to Food Bank clients in 2021. The total value of the food was around $422,000. Almost half of the food provided to clients was purchased with donated money and the other half was made up of food generously donated by the public:
FOOD BOUGHT WITH MONETARY DONATIONS - $203,000
FOOD DONATED - $219,000
Food and money are not the only donations. Our local volunteers, ranging in number from 40 to 50 per year, donate their time and expertise at no cost to the Food Bank or to the community. Without them, St. Joseph's Community Food Bank could not operate:
HOURS OF VOLUNTEER LABOUR PER YEAR - 16,000
DOLLAR VALUE OF DONATED LABOUR - $181,000
Donated volunteer labour represents almost 41% of the dollar value of the food provided. St. Joseph's Community Food Bank thanks the community and all its volunteers for their ongoing contributions.
Volunteers are the backbone of St. Joseph's Community Food Bank. They are the front line in providing food for persons in need in Pembroke. If you are interested in donating your skills to the Food Bank and giving back to the community, click on Volunteering at the top of the page.
