VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - GET INVOLVED

Volunteers are the backbone of the Food Bank. By having a stable group of volunteers, we have improved our service delivery to better serve our clients.  However, food demand has been increasing by leaps and bounds.

Increases in demand have resulted in the need to increase the numbers of volunteers, not only in direct delivery, but also in areas such as administration, Board Support and information technology. If you want to give back to your community by volunteering your skills we would love to talk to you

identifying your interest

A wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available, some of which are listed below.   The full range of work categories is included in the application form which gives you the opportunity to outline your skills and identify the kind of work you would prefer.  All volunteers must complete a Vulnerable Sector police record check.

client registration

Work one-on-one with clients by registering them in on-line our registration data base to help them access their food entitlements.

serving

This is the front line where we provide pre-packed food hampers to clients. You will interact directly with clients to ensure they have the food they need to feed their families. Some heavy lifting may be involved, but volunteers share the load wherever possible.

building food hampers -stocking shelves

This involves packing hampers for clients using a list based on family size.  You will work with a team to share the work of loading and packing.  Stocking shelves is an ongoing requirement to ensure there is a ready supply of accessible food for clients.

special tasks - events

Help with special events including setting up, running and taking down events.  This may include public relations events, fund raising events, food drives, community garden support or preparing for things like the Santa Claus parade.

committee support

Food Bank committees take on the challenges of the many change initiatives that are required as the organization evolves. Your knowledge of non-profit organization management will be put to good use in writing, planning, assessing results and representing the Food Bank in the community.

If you are interested in applying to volunteer, you will see the full range of possibilities when you download the application below and follow the instructions.
